We have been really, really blessed. Things are falling into place before our eyes. We don't have a house yet but for some reason I am not freaked out about that, just yet. We have an offer on our house and these days that is HUGE!!! I know I am just not grateful enough. It's such a relief.
Since Norah was born I have felt the hand of God in my life more times than I can count. In the hospital, because of her difficulty to feed, squeeky cry, floppiness and a few other things it was suggested to us that we have some genetic testing done. Just two weeks later she was diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome. Of course we were overwhelmed with the diagnosis as well as all the information we received about it. Colin has been a rock! I still think about it often, every day and sometimes it is hard and other times it is not. I know someday it won't be in the fore front of my mind 80% of the time. Currently there is no cure.
Norah's feedings have gotten much better for most of the time. When she was first born she was only drinking 2 ounces and it was taking about an hour. Now she often drinks 3 1/2 - 4 ounces in 30 minutes. I am so grateful for this! She is up to 9+ pounds now. We have been going to physical therapy once a week, seeing the geneticist and endocrinologist. She will have a sleep study the end of the month and if everything looks clear they will start her on growth hormones to help with the low muscle tone and help her grow at a more typical rate. This is the current and best treatment for PWS.
With the bad comes the good. Norah is VERY content, easy going and happy. She emits a very special "vibe" that even those who do not know that she has PWS comment on. I get to keep my baby a baby longer than usual because of her slow growth. At almost 4 months she is just in to 0-3 clothes. She sleeps all night without a peep.
The Lord certainly knows something I don't. There were many times in the beginning that I was sure that I wasn't strong enough to take on this challenge. Colin, again, is a rock. We both feel humbled to have Norah in our lives. She is our little angel, a perfect spirit who wanted to come to earth so much that she was willing to accept a less than perfect body while on this Earth. Knowing this brings tears to my eyes and fills me with something I can't explain.
The link above will provide a great deal of information for you to read if you want to. There is a spectrum of severity and we will only know what they are as she gets older. We take it a day at a time and count our blessings daily as well.
Life is very busy right now and I am looking forward to getting settled and breathing a huge sigh of relief. We will keep our blog updated as to the happenings in our lives, just like always.

Lori I can't wait to meet your special beautiful Norah. What a sweet post. You guys are amazing and Norah is so lucky to be a part of your family. Hey is the Greenacres house on Montgomery by any chance? We have some good friends who just moved out of a rental on Montgomrery and bought a house in our neighborhood. If it is and you have any questions about it she would be really helpful. Let me know.
I can't help but think that Norah will bless your lives (all of you-all of us) in ways we could never comprehend otherwise. People who raise special children can't help but develop through sacrifice, a level of character and love uncommon to the rest of humanity - characteristics of Godliness. Maybe some of that is spiritual influence from the child - the vibe you mentioned. It's just a little compensation they're sent with. I've known other special kids who also have it. It's hard to describe, but the terms innocence and sweetness come to mind.
I have a little vision which has come to me several times, of an older Norah interacting on a high level with the other kids, and becoming a favorite of the cousins and aunts/uncles. The "vibe" will draw them in and catch their hearts. I really believe we are blessed to have her in our family, to make us all better people.
We can't wait to see all of you back here in the West. It will be hard for you to leave Cleveland, but once here you will love it.
We love you all,
Mom and Dad C.
Yay on your house. I hope all goes through. What a relief!
You guys are great and Norah was sent to you because you are special parents, that I'm sure!
I can't wait to meet sweet Norah either. I'm glad everything is falling in to place and we can't wait to get you all out here! Love you guys.
This is amazing Lori! Wow! All your improvements, investments, etc have paid off for your house. I had tinges of "yikes" when you posted it was up for sale. Amazing, miraculous, etc. I suppose there are trade-offs for challenges and blessings sometimes. I have been thinking about that a lot in my familys' lives too.
As for Miss Norah, no matter what her adult capacity will be, she was sent here to teach us all about love and what is important. She has already taught so many.
It is amazing that she is already getting so much intervention. She will be so much better for it in the long run too.
Also, I can see/feel a HUGE difference in you too, Lori. You are even more beautiful in spirit.
Best of luck tying up everything. I can't help but feel a little sad that we will be so "alone" in this area, but we have no plans of moving, so I guess we will just need to suck it up ;-)
What a good post! It was great to get an update on all that is going on in your lives. I can't wait to hear about your next adventures in Spokane.
As for Norah, I loved being there and being to hold her and cuddle with her when she was so small. I really felt like she was absolutely perfect, and whatever the challenges and trials are in her (and your) life, she (and you) will eventually be made even more perfect through it all. It's so humbling and inspiring to be a part of her life, even if it's from a distance. Hope we still get to see you guys when you're in the west! Eventually we need to get there ourselves. Love you!
i read this lori in slc with friends at a quilt market. it is so sweet and tender. i am so excited for you guys to be closer and we can all see each other more often. you and colin have such a sweet precious family, and we all will become more like we need to be with sweet little Norah in our lives. thanks, it made my day.
